Jan & Eva Svankmajer

I went to the exhibition of Mr.& Mrs.Svankmajer who are Surrealists in Czech.
"Jan & Eva Svankmajer : Film and Its Margins"
In there, many artworks are displayed such as sculptures, paintings, prints, drawings,
collages and more. Besides,it is displayed to woodblock prints
inspired by Japanese themes and motifs like Lafcadio Hearn's "Kwaidan".
I enjoyed these variety works very much.
In internet, you may feel that his images are grotesque,
But the real works are different from them.
Their handmade works are powerful! That amazes me!



チェコのシュルレアリスト・シュヴァンクマイエル夫妻の展覧会に行ってきました。
『ヤン＆エヴァ　シュヴァンクマイエル展　〜映画とその周辺〜』
シュールなオブジェあり、油絵あり、セットあり、過去の映画あり、
妖怪の木版画やコラージュまでも！
と盛りだくさんで、とても面白かったです。
グロテスクさに目がいきがちですが、
いざ作者が作った本物を目の前にすると、
手で作られた造形の迫力に、クラクラさせられます。

"Survivinglife" The movie by the paper-cutting animation is also released from today.
The making video,storyboard, and the collage that was cut with a cutter are displayed.
He said that he made paper-cutting because he did not have a budget.
But I was surprised whether he could do it depending on imagination.

カット（切り絵）アニメーションによる映画も今日から公開です。
映画『サヴァイヴィング ライフ　〜夢は第二の人生〜』
そのメイキングや絵コンテ、実際にカッターで切り、コラージュした画像等も展示。
予算がないから切り絵、ということでしたが、
想像力次第で、ここまで出来るのですね。



And the last is a portrait by Japanese Photographer EIKO HOSOE.
His dearest wife Eve died in 2005,
Jan in white cloth was projected their work and wife.
He said "I could feel her to be even if I closed my eyes."
I can feel how they worked hard in alteregoism pressingly.
I was impressive. This is a really recommended exhibition.

最後は写真家：細江英公氏によるポートレート。
最愛の妻・エヴァさんは2005年に亡くなられましたが、
白い布をまとったヤンに、二人の作品や奥さんを映して撮影。
「目をつむっていても彼女を感じた」いうヤンの表情に、
いかに二人が信頼しあい創作活動に励んでいたか、ひしひしと感じ
なんだか感動的でした。

今日は監督による舞台挨拶もあったそうです。

Munari-4

It is the 4th lecture "nella notte buia - in the darkness of the night-" by Bruno Munari.
The sentence of Part 1 consists of only 4 sentences.
The key word is "a cat" in this part. This cat moves in various place.
Sometimes she walks the ground and sometimes she jumps in downtown.
She is a role to derive our eyes.

第４回・ブルーノ・ムナリさんの『闇の夜に』。画面展開について。
第一部では、猫がキーワードになっています。この猫がいろいろ動きます。
地面だったり、建物の上だったり…見る人のアングルを誘導します。

Speaking of night, it is a cat.
So a cat comes out in my drawing "Night".

私の"Night"という絵にも猫が出てきます。
夜といえば猫ですからね。


Wish upon the moon...月に願いを。


A little light of the fireworks...花火のささやかな光。

Munari-3

It is the 3rd lecture "nella notte buia - in the darkness of the night-" by Bruno Munari.
The sentence of Part 1 consists of only 4 sentences.

再びブルーノ・ムナリさんの『闇の夜に』。本文にもどります。
黒い紙を利用した第一部の文章は、これだけ。

「ぽつりと　ともしびが」" A little light"（normal）
「はるか　遠くで」"long distance"（normal）
「はるか　遠くで」"long distance"（small）
「かがやいている」"is shining"（big）

() is size of the letters. All sentences are put beside a moon.
It is interesting that an impression of the moon changes by the size of the letters.

（）内は、文字のサイズです。
文章は、すべて月の横に配置されているのですが、
文字の大きさによって、月の印象が変わってくるのが面白いです。

Esquisse

If I draw "Night" which I drew before in the composition
that I learned in Bruno Munari?
It is my esquisse (rough sketch).

エスキース：
もし、以前描いた"Night" の絵を、
ブルーノ・ムナーリさんで学んだ構図で描いたらどうなるか…

CHANEL-2

I wrote about a "Chanel" fashion collection book before.
以前ご紹介した、シャネルのコレクションブックのレイアウト。

Today, I try to arrange it on my way.
これを応用したらどうなるか、考えてみました。

For example...
Legs of women→Legs of the chair
足の動きいろいろ→脚…→イスでも良いですよね。


What would happen if I increase the number of women?
人数を増やしてみたら？

I arranged it for the image of dancing girls.
ダンスしている感じでレイアウトしてみました。

First,I increased merely numbers of people,but it was a mess.
So I took care about
1)people: To make an overall flow,show a blank on the floor
2)]Logo : To differentiate a logo from a person、I lowered a character and levelled it.
3)Spade : To make a blank for relaxation
How about it?

単に人数を増やすと、ゴチャゴチャになります。
そこで注意したのは、
１）人物：全体の流れをつくる。余白が地面に見えるようにする。
２）ロゴ：人数を増やすと文字と人物が同一化する。これを避ける為に、文字を小さく、水平に。
３）余白：ふっと息継ぎできるような余白をつくる。

いかがでしょうか。

Munari-2

It is the second lecture "nella notte buia - in the darkness of the night-" by Bruno Munari.
As for the text, it is constituted of 3 parts.
First, the night town made of the black mat　paper.

引き続き、ブルーノ・ムナリさんの『闇の夜に』。
今回は本文です。３部構成になっています。
まずは、マットな黒い紙を使った、夜の街のシーンから。

１）
About the yellow: there is a small round hole,
The system is that it shows the yellow in the opening of Part 2.
The people of the town took out a ladder.
Can they really reach to the moon in the distance?

黄色は、小さな丸い穴が開いていて、
第２部のはじまりにある黄色が見える仕掛けになっています。
街の人々はハシゴをとりだしてきましたが、
はたしてそれで、遠くに見える小さな月まで届くのでしょうか。


It is a draft. 下書きです。

It is comprised of the screen right half.
Because it approaches to the edge and is drawn,
we understand a creeping state.
I grind a screen division into four lengthwise, From the top,
1: Moon
2: Ladder which extends to the top
3: Ladder which inclines diagonally
4: Ladder to support
It is shared a role luckily.I think that It is not accidental.

画面右半分で構成されています。
端に寄せて描かれているので、コソコソ行っている感じが出ますね。
画面を縦に４分割すると、上から、
１：月
２：縦にのびるハシゴ
３：斜めに傾くハシゴ
４：支えるハシゴ
上手い具合に役割分担されています。これ、偶然ではないと思います。


The thing which I colored in poster color before converting a color.
色変換する前の、ポスターカラーで彩色したもの。

Somebody with a long ladder passes and the plan failed.
長いハシゴを持った誰かさんが通りすぎて…人々の計画は残念、失敗しました。



All the ladders which collapsed fit into a screen lower half.
And the people who was going to climb towards the moon
are placed only in the right-hand page,
Somebody passing locates it in the left-hand page.
With "the motion" that I fall apart and am upset by,
Comparison of "the stillness" that merely walks …
It is calculated very much!

崩れたハシゴはすべて、画面下半分に収まっています。
また、月に向って登ろうとしていた人々は右ページのみに配置され、
通りがかりの誰かさんは、左ページに。
崩れて慌てている『動』と、単に歩いている『静』の対比…
すごく計算されていますよね!

Munari-1

The teaching material of today's class is the picture book
"nella notte buia - in the darkness of the night-" (1956) by Bruno Munari.


今日は、ブルーノ・ムナーリさんの
『闇の夜に』（1956）という絵本から。




１）

I take form as always. Please forgive me for changing the letter of the signboard
to our company name.
いつものように、形をとります。
看板の文字、ちゃっかり我が社の宣伝にさせていただきますね。


I comment on the screen constitution.
Most buildings are put in the height of a quarter bottom.
So,we can feel the expanse of the dark night.
At the same time, we can feel the small world of human beings.
This is an effect by the comparison.
In addition, the main signboard is located in the left-sided middle.
The vertical line which derives it,
It is a chimney and the antenna in the screen right half.

画面構成の解説をします。
主な建物は、下4分の１の高さにほぼ収められています。
闇夜の空の広がりを感じることが出来ると同時に、
対比して、人間達の小さな世界を強調することができます。
また、一番見せたい看板は、左側の真ん中に配置されています。
それを誘導するような縦のラインが、
画面右半分にある、煙突やアンテナです。

Let's color it.
I think that I should draw it on black Kent paper
because the original picture is the blue line in the black background.
But I colored with red in the white paper.
It is an atmosphere in the twilight.
However, there is a reason for this.In fact...

さて、筆入れです。
オリジナルは黒バックに青い線ですので、黒ケントなどに描くと良いと思いますが、
ここでは、白地に赤色で描きました。たそがれ時の雰囲気ですが、実は…


It becomes the blue when I reverse a color!
…色を反転させると青になります！

The blue that I reversed with a computer was too bright!
I adjusted a few hues and luminosity,
and I put the English sentence of the credit.
しかしながら、コンピュータで反転させた青は明るすぎたので、
少々色相と明度を調整して、さらにクレジットの英文もいれてみました。

In the text, the various scenes in this town are developed from now on.
It seems to be able to apply these scene to an interactive production thing such as web.
I am going to draw them on the next time.　Don't miss it！

本文では、これから、この街で起こるいろいろなシーンが展開されます。
こういったシーン展開は、webなどのインタラクティブな制作物に応用できそうですよね。
ということで、次回はそれも描いてみます。

Calder-4

This is the final round of Caldar.　I color it.
Check the composite of each color!

カルダ−４回目。最終回です。

彩色していきます。
各色のコンポジットに注目。

Yellow:

左上から右下へ落下するような配置。そして、上へポーンッと跳ね上がる円。

Red:

左下から右上へ上昇するような配置。
これで画面に対角線の配置ができました。

Blue:

メインのペンペン草を誘導する青。

Black:

ここは北斎で行った線が役立つところですね。

And sign with a pencil... finished!
そして、鉛筆でサインをいれて、完成〜。

The black mixed some blue.
It becomes the calm color.
黒は、そのまま使うとキツいので、
少し青をまぜると落ち着きます。

Calder-3

Now I am in the mood for Calder because I could catch his meaning.
Furthermore, I take form.

カルダ−３回目です。
ムーブメントをつかんで、その気になったところで、
もう少し形をとっていきます。



I kept an intonation to move a pencil.
鉛筆を動かすスピードに抑揚を持たせます。

スーッ（normal)、
グイッ、ググググ（heavily:slow）、
スッ（lightly:fast).


I took form once again.
もう一回、形をとりました。

Caldar-2

I was worried about how to draw it.
We must understand the construction of the picture.
What did he imagine before drawing in front of a pure white canvas?
It may be this motif such as this shepherd's pouch.
This movement to go from this side to the depths.
And round and round such as Osmund.　
Now I am in the mood for Calder.

We can see nothing finely from the beginning.
I think that it is necessary for us to feel around blindly.

２回目のカルダーです。
さて、あの絵をどう描いていくか…悩みました。
はじめは石膏像と同じように、"計測し、ポイントを打つ"
という方法を行ってみましたが、たとえ正確に描けたとしても、
それでは写し絵にすぎない気がします。
カルダーさんは、そんな風にして描くはずがない！
ということで、仕切り直して、
まず、絵の構成を読み解くことからはじめました。
真っ白なキャンバスを前に、
カルダーさんはどんなイメージを思い描いていたのでしょう…。



彼が一番描きたかったのは、きっと、
このぺんぺん草のようなモチーフではないでしょうか。
手前から奥へ向う、この動き。ぐわーん。ぐわん、ぐわん。
そして、となりの、ゼンマイのような、ぐるぐるぐるぐる。
そして呼応するように左の円。あとは感覚的に、浮遊する円…。
表現が抽象的になってしまいましたが、
ここは音楽的にノリよくいきましょう。
私もその気になって、手を動かしてみました。

何事も、はじめから細かくは見えません。
手探りでつかんでいくことが必要なのだと思います。

Caldar-1

Recently we learned "lines" mainly by Hokusai.
So next, our theme is "volum, and its composition".
Today is Alexander Calder. I pick up him before in this blog.
He is famous for a mobile. He draws the picture too.

このところ北斎三昧でした。
北斎先生からは、線をメインに学習したので、
次ののテーマは、Volumeとその配置です。
今日はアレクサンダー・カルダー。
このブログでも、以前、その名を出したことがあります。▶Calder?
モビールで有名ですが、当然ながら、絵も描いています。

This is a finished picture. I am going to upload the process in several times.

これが完成図です。サインも真似てみました。
ここに至るまでの過程を、これから数回に分けてアップしていきますね。

Japan's First Woman Photojournalist

Do you know the TV program "Tetsuko-no-heya”(The room of Tetsuko) ?
It is a famous talk show in Japan.
Tetsuko, whose hair style resemble an onion, is a charming woman who is full of curiosity.
She talks with many interesting guests.
The other day, Lady GAGA was a guest on her shows as well.

Today's guest was Tsuneko Sasamoto, who is a female photographer.
To my surprise, she is 96 years old.
She is a very cheerful refined person.
The secret of her spirit...
・She draws all the food that she eats.
・She even makes her own clothes.
・She drinks 170cc of wine every night.
On the other hand, she doesn't eat the staple food.

日本人にはおなじみの、徹子の部屋。
今日のゲストは、女性報道写真家の笹本恒子さん。
驚くなかれ、なんと彼女は96歳！
とても元気でしっかりしていて、品のある方でした。
健康の秘訣は…
・食べたものを毎回すべて描く。（絵もお得意だそうです）
・服は自分で作る。
・毎晩170ccのワインを呑む。そのかわり、主食は食べない。

At the end of the program, Tetsuko asked her
"Please give some words to the younger viewers who are watching".

Tsuneko Sasamoto said,
"At first,let's try!
The young person often says this way.
-"I want to draw a picture, but I have no talent."-
Only the future can tell if there is talent or not.
So let's give it a try anyway."

I wanted to become such a super woman.
And I thought that it was up to my intention.

番組の最後。
「この番組を見ている若い人に一言を。」
その答えがとてもよかったです。

「まずやってみること！
若い人達はよくこう言うの。
『私は絵を描きたいんだけど、才能がないんです。』
才能があるかないかなんて、やってからわかること。
だからまず、とにかくやってみることです。」

私も、この方のようなスーパーウーマンになりたいものです。
そして、それは自分の意志次第なのだな〜と思った、
徹子の部屋でした。

My holiday

I jogged last night.
It was wonderful feeling the caress of the cool evening wind on my skin
while bathing in the white light of the moon.
The more I run, the more I move forward.
My body refuse to stop.
But I started have difficulty breathing,so I stopped before I collapsed.

My face became bright red like boiled octopus.

O-bon holidays

In hot morning of the middle summer

Japanese lantern plant
This is described as a ceremonial bonfire.

Our office will be closed from tomorrow for O-bon holidays.

In Japan, we have holidays for "Bon festival".
It can be roughly translated s "the festival of the dead".
Japanese people believe that the dead family members return
from the beyond during the Bon period,
and most people take their days off to go back to their hometown
to welcome the returning ancestors.
For the Japanese, the holiday this year is special.

明日から夏期休業をいただきます。

お盆は、亡くなられた方々に思いを馳せる時です。
日本では、この時期、先祖の霊が家に帰ってくると信じられています。
私達日本人にとって、今年のお盆は、特別なものになるでしょう。

Are you surviving the hot summer?

I use a new computer that my boss bought recently.
The software on it uses the latest edition, too.
The mouse is smooth and the monitor is clear!
I feel stress-free. I feel relaxed.

I noticed the data of the poster I am currently working on.
"My work is so sloppy!"
My motivation is increased. I want to improve my work.

The world evolves every day.
I must evolve, too.

近況：

新しいPCを使用しています。
ソフトも、最新版を使っています。
動きはスムーズだし、モニターでの見え方が鮮明！
ストレスフリーです。
そして、私は気がつきました。
現在制作中のデータが、いかにいい加減だったか…！
んー、モチベーションが上がってきました。
もっと良いものを作りたい。

世界は日々進化する。
私も、進化しなければ。


Hibiscus : from the balcony of my house

My favorite layout

"Oh, this is very good. I like it!"
There will surely be an experience
where you will find something that makes you feel this way.
Unfortunately, we will forget it all too soon
when we do nothing despite the fact
that our hearts beat so quickly at that moment,

「あ、これいいな。私、好きだな！」と思ったものを、
そのままにしていると、いつの間にか忘却の彼方へ。
せっかく心がときめいたのに、もったいない。

ということで、今日の朝活は、
「最近いいなと思ったもの」を描いてみることに。
手で描いて、理解しましょう、覚えましょう。
では、経過順にどうぞ。

１）Legs,legs,legs... 足、足、足。

I feel that the various positions of the model's legs are well-composed.
この動きからして、いい感じ。いい構図。

２）Yes, my motif is the woman wearing the red mantle.そう、赤いマントの女性。

I like her different poses and the layout.
この動きとレイアウトが好きなんです。

３）The word "Chanel" was obtained from the cover of
an old "Chanel" fashion collection book.

で、何を描いているのかって？
はい、昔のシャネルのコレクションブックの表紙です。
（これは筆入れ前のデッサン）

４）It's complete!

The background of the real book cover is flat and white,
and the image of the model is from photograph.
However, this is my drawing,
so I included some texture in the background.

こんな感じです。
本物では、背景はフラットな紙白で、モデルも写真ですが、
これは絵なので、マチエールをつけてみました。

そのマチエール：
クレヨンのような描き心地の、水に溶けるパステルの、
白と黒を利用して、「ぐちゃぐちゃ」と簡単に塗り付けたあと、
白や赤などのポスターカラーを重ねて塗りました。

やや防水っぽくなるので、紙がたわまないという
ラッキーなオマケもついてきました。

Hokusai-mouse

The Hokusai lecture that continued for a while is the last in this.
The motif is a mouse.
In the guidebook by Hokusai, it is drawn with a rabbit.
The point of how to describe is the same as a rabbit.
I was weak in a mouse, so I omitted it.
But I decided to challenge itbecause there was a request.

しばらく続いた北斎講座も、これで最後です。
今回のモチーフは、ねずみです。
北斎による指南書では、ウサギとセットで描かれています。
描き方の要領は、ウサギと同じってことですね。
私はねずみが苦手なので、省略していましたが、
リクエストがあった為、挑戦してみることにしました。

I did not stare a mouse until now.
But now I noticed the foot of the mouse is action station.
ねずみをマジマジと見たことが無かった私ですが、
すばしっこそうな、戦闘態勢の足をしている事が判明。

When I put two on top of one another,It became like this.
２版を重ねると、このようになりました。

●ねずミのゆび中を　すミにてけがきをするにはあらず

Hokusai said the hair does not grow on the finger.
Oh! Professor Hokusai, it is the very careful indication.
指には毛が生えていないってこと？
北斎先生、非常に丁寧なご指摘です。

２日間に渡る、朝活の絵を合わせると…こうなります！



About the composition: 構図について

The movement
Withdraw from the left edge below,
from the lower right, it grow straight to the top,
and it comes back to the left-hand page again.
In that way while moving our eyes,
Commentary sentence of Hokusai is written in at the blank of the middle closely.
Professor hokusai is very cool!

グルリと画面を一周するような、ムーブメントです。

左端から右へ向って、下に重く下がっていき、
到着した右下から、グンッと上へ伸び、
そして再び、左ページへ戻る…

真ん中の余白には、北斎先生の解説文が
ぎっしり書き込まれています。
（ここでは省略）

視線が画面外へ逃げない様に、
かつ、画面一杯に視線を誘導し、
結局最後は、文字に目がとまるようになる
という訳です。

さすがですね。北斎先生、かっこいい。

Hokusai-Gomphrena globosa2

The morning activity series from yesterday.
It is the picture of the left half.
The motif is the foxtail millet and saxifraga.

昨日の朝活の続きです。
左半分の絵です。モチーフは粟と虎耳草（ゆきのした）です。




虎耳草（ゆきのした）

●図のごとく葉を墨にてかき　
黄がちのくさのしるにてぬり
元より端へつねのくさの汁にて　
葉のかたちにならひてくまどり
元よりべろのくま也
はうらハ朱にて合わせたる肉色（にくしき）をぬり
元よりへりへ　まハして　くゝりぐまなり
ごくごくうすききがちの草のしるにて
影の方よりわりぐまをかける
茎ハ朱のきめにてせうゑんじをときて
くきをつけ立テにかくべし

●花はごふんのつけたて

When the saxifraga writes Japanese, it is "tiger ear glass".

虎耳草とは聞き慣れない名前ですが、
通りでよく見かける植物です。
言われてみれば、虎の耳のような草！

Hokusai-Gomphrena globosa

Without getting tired, I am absorbed in Hokusai as ever.
Today's morning activity is Gomphrena globosa of Hokusai.
Though this picture is a spread,I drew only the right half today.

飽きる事無く、相変わらず、北斎三昧です。
今日の朝活は、北斎の千日紅（センニチコウ）です。
この絵は見開きで、粟や虎耳草があるのですが、今日は右半分だけ。

●花は大なりをうすく朱をぬり付け　
花びら図のごとく　にくしきにて付ケ
せうゑんじのぐのきめにて一ツぺんあびせ
朱のきめにて　せうゑんじをとき
かげよりくまどり　へりへ　
くまをみかづきにまハして　丸く見せべし

●はのおもて合わせぐさ　くさの汁のわりぐま
同く元よりそうぐま　べろのふかしぐまなり
